Fun Space Fact: What are Mars Rovers? Over the years, NASA has sent five robotic vehicles, called rovers, to Mars. The names of the five rovers are: Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance.

SFSD would like to give a huge shout-out to our partners at Delta Dental who visit schools to complete much-needed dental work for eligible students! Cleanings, cavities, and root canals are all done in the mobile bus, so students don’t have to miss school for an appointment! You put a smile on our faces, Delta Dental! Thank you!

Fun Space Fact: Do foods taste different in space?
Yes! Have you ever had a cold? Tasting food while in space is kind of like eating when you have a cold. Foods taste blander, so astronauts like to eat spicy food in space. Astronauts add spices(salt and pepper that is liquid) or spicy sauces to give their food more taste.
This week's Wow Wednesday takes a peek in classroom 104. Students are learning about collecting and organizing data. Look at those mathematicians in action!

Today kicks off Everybody Reads in our community! Our goal as a district is to read 300,000 books! Last year Harvey Dunn read 9,382 books. Our goal this year is to read 9,400 books. We are going to create a galaxy of readers. Each star added to our galaxy will represent one book read! Reading logs will be coming home from each classroom teacher to assist with tracking. Lets blast off to meet our reading goal!

The Sioux Falls School District is excited to partner with Siouxland Libraries again for Everybody Reads! From March 13-31, students, staff, parents, and community members are being encouraged to track how many books they read. The goal is to create a community of readers ages 0-100! Our visual display at Harvey Dunn is in progress and can be found on the wall in the main entrance hallway. During the three weeks, a new star will appear in the galaxy when a book is read. Once your student(s) completes a book, they will receive a star to add to the galaxy. We look forward to a bright galaxy with billions and billions of stars!
Wondering how you can get involved as a parent? Encourage your student to read at home and/or read to them! When they finish a book, color in a star on their reading log. (The reading log will be sent home on Monday, March 13th.) Return the reading log on or before March 31st. As mentioned, this is a community-wide reading initiative. Anytime you finish a book throughout the month of March, we would encourage you to stop by your local library to add your own star to the growing galaxy and record your progress at https://www.sf.k12.sd.us/page/everybody-reads

We are highlighting our fourth graders this week for Wow Wednesday! They are learning about representing fractions on a number line and comparing fractions to the landmarks 0, 1/2, 1, and 2. Great job mathematicians!
Students in 103 and 401 spent time reading together during Read Across America Week.
Kindergartners loved having a Junior Achievement guest come to the classroom! They learned the value of coins, how to save money, and wants versus needs in many interactive ways.
